Essential Responsibilities:

Teach ESL classes at specified times and days in accordance with the schedule and the students' level of language.

Follow a pacing schedule meticulously and teach from the books that are used at our academy.

Use communicative approaches to teach rather than relying on lectures
-
Create basic lesson plans for one culture and one literature class per quarter that include language-specific objectives.

Develop your own materials for one culture class and one literature class per quarter. The goal of these two classes is to apply what students learn in their general English program to real-world materials. (e.g., film, music, the news, recipes, reviews, etc. in the culture classes and novels in the literature classes)

Develop one project for students per semester based on the culture course you teach

Keep complete student records including attendance and grades.

Maintain a positive classroom environment.

Assess students and evaluate their progress.

Administer exams.

Participate in professional development activities (twice per quarter) and regular staff meetings. (which are paid, occur once every two weeks, and happen within the standard schedule)

You are required to prepare for lessons at our school and you are paid to do so.

Qualifications:

An M.Ed. is preferred, but is not required.
-
A certificate in TESOL, TEFL, CELTA, DELTA, or the supplemental ELL certification for certified teachers is strongly preferred.

A Bachelor's degree in education, in a foreign language, in TESOL, or in any similar relevant field is required, however if the candidate has significant experience with teaching, then a Bachelor's degree in another field is acceptable.

A minimum of two years teaching ESL is required.

Experience teaching teenagers or adult learners is strongly preferred.

Ability to teach to all skill levels is an absolute must. The candidate must know how to grade their language to make themselves comprehensible to beginners.

Ability to engage and motivate students. We are seeking teachers who are serious about their work, but also charismatic.

Ability to tailor activities and lesson plans to individual learners.

Starting Salary: $1,936.00 (up to 22 hours per week)
